About us

We were set up long before most of who now run the group actually joined, so I guess somebody needs to find out when ... (watch this space for the answer).

About

Birmingham Bi Group or Brum Bi Group as its become know, has been in existance for more years than I (the site creator and current co runner of the group) know.  But it has been beacon of hope and support for the bisexual community of the West Midlands for a long time.

The group started life, via its orginal creator Natalya, as a social political support group.  It is my understanding, that at the time raising the profile of Bisexuality as a whole was the main agenda along with proving a safe meeting place for fellow bisexuals.

When I started to attend back in 2009, the regular monthly meetings were being held at the HGL Centre on Bromsgrove St.  As we had use of the property after hours then.  After a year or so the dynamic of the group changed, attending people were less interested in political debate.   And more enthused by having a regular meet up of Bisexuals from around the county, where we could share experience, chat and offer peer support.

Brum Bi Group has continued in that vain for the subsequent years, along with moving to the new location at the Birmingham LGBT centre.  A secondary group was also created, by Jules another member who saw a need for a social setting that was also away from the Gay Village for anyone who was maybe newly out to themselves or nervous about the LGBT scene or just liked to keep it low key.  So was born the Brum Bi Coffee meets on Sunday's once a month.  They have been quite popular for many reasons, not being a work day for some along with the already identified reasons.

Towards the end of 2015, the Sunday coffee meets seemed to tail off a little.  So as ever with the group someone else has taken over running them for the time being.  There are always periods of lull with both groups, which seem to happen as waves of attendees drop away when the group(s) have provied the support they needed.  People always pop back every so often, but its important to note that attendence is a fluid thing for everyone.  Attendence is of course voluntary and at any point between advertised times, so people will pop in and out to suit them.

Brum Bi Group also holds annual BiFests usually in November, which for those who don't know, is like a mini one day BiCon.  There are lots of events workshops discussion spaces etc, and it always pulls a big crowd from far and wide.

I suppose the most important point to note about both groups is that neither of them are dating or hook up groups, as that isn't the purpose.  I know over the years a few attendees have grown from friendships to relationships, but that certainly isn't and expectation.

If you have just realised you are Bisexual, wondeing if you are or have been for a long time but done nothing about it.  And you want to meet with other people who are, then why not come along to a gathering and check us out.

Welcome!
